So Inspired!

Since I started my blog several months ago I have been so inspired by the many artists and friends I have met. I feel that I have grown so much as an artist with every post. Every time I paint I learn something, but I am also learning from each and every one of the artists that I follow. You are all an inspiration to me and I really appreciate your comments and for your interest in my work.

Because of my busy work schedule I have decided the painting a day thing is a bit to much for me as many times I get home very late. However, I still have such a strong urge to paint and I really want to keep it up. What I have been trying to do is paint everyday, but for a shorter amount of time. Even if its only for a half hour or an hour I am still making progress and continuing to learn.

I have had time to think while on the train commuting to and from work and also have been trying to carry a camera for reference photos more often. So my painting references and ideas have been building up. Many of my paintings are already planned and vary in subject to keep it more interesting.

After finishing the portrait last week I decided I would like to paint something a bit different. The painting will be of a scene of the city of Chicago. One that I see every day as I walk to the train. I hope to be finished in a week or two so stay tuned. I hope to post something soon.

  1. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes about from your observations of Chicago. I think it's best when we paint from what we know in our daily lives. Joel used to sketch people on the el trains to and from work. He gave me his journal for Christmas one year. Precious!

  2. Thanks Janelle. I agree. Inspirations come on a daily basis. The trick is to capture them when they are happening. What a cool gift that Joel gave you! I used to sketch on the train too. Maybe I should start that up again. It is a great exercise to practice and it makes the ride more enjoyable.

  6. Brad - I don't know how you do it! I'd be whipped after a commute home. I think your idea is a good one. I got kind of burned out on small pieces and for about 2 months have done mainly larger works - I just post pics along the way. It would be very interesting seeing your work in progress! I love process pictures form artists because I find it interesting seeing (and learning from ) how others think things through and work. If that's something you'd feel comfortable posting, I think alot of readers would enjoy it.

  9. Thank you Kim and Dana!

I do feel very tired after work but I have such a desire to paint that I kind of force myself to do it. My dream has always been to be a fine artist. I have been fortunate enough to make a living in commercial art, but it doesn't fill the desire I have inside me. If I don't keep up my painting I kind of feel like I am failing.

I like your suggestion about posting the progress of my work, Kim. I think thats a great Idea and I will do more of that in the future.
