Tree on a rock

10"x8" acrylic on masonite

I always find it hard to create more depth in a painting from a photo reference. In an effort to do this, I made the trees and the distant hills much cooler and I warmed up the foreground.  Is it a successful painting? I am not sure if I like it or not, but I did enjoy myself with this one.

  1. I think it is very succesfull, you really get a feeling of distance also helped by the color choice.

  2. It's beautiful! I didn't think it was acrylic because it has such subtle blending and richness to it. I really like it! It has something special that many landscapes lack. I like the rocks in the front and the lush green grass in the distance. Great work!

  3. Successful? Yes...This is a beautiful landscape, Brad. I love the colors...I find that greens are one of the most difficult colors to use...this is wonderful!!
